Islam, Culture and Society

The book series is an initiative of the Leuven Centre for the Study of Islam, Culture and Society (LCSICS) and offers a solid academic platform for national and international scholars working on Muslim societies from various perspectives and disciplines. The series encourages an interdisciplinary approach and welcomes contributions from all Humanities and Social Sciences fields including theology, religious studies, history, law, philosophy, philology, literature, anthropology, sociology, social and cultural psychology, cultural studies, and the arts.

Topics that are of particular interest to the series are the interdisciplinary roles of history, social behaviours, religious (and other) identities, local traditions, cultural and legal systems, as well as diversity, inclusion, and tolerance in (re)shaping the plurality, changeability, diversity and global connectedness of Muslim cultures and societies.

All volumes in the series present cutting-edge scholarship and foster the ongoing scholarly debates that pertain to the historical and contemporary facets of Muslim societies. In so doing, Islam, Culture and Society contributes to a richer, deeper and more nuanced understanding of the complexities of Muslim practices and perspectives in the social, cultural, psychological and religious spheres in a globalized world.

The editors accept monographs and edited volumes covering a broad appeal of topics in a wide geographic range, including North Africa, the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, South and Southeast Asia, and Muslim communities in the West.

The series welcomes contributions by established scholars as well as by promising young researchers, and embraces diversity in terms of gender, nationality, and ethnicity.

All books are published in English and are written for an international audience of scholars.
All manuscripts are subject to peer review.

About the Leuven Centre for the Study of Islam, Culture and Society

The Leuven Centre for the Study of Islam, Culture and Society (LCSICS) is based on the long-standing commitment of KU Leuven to the development of scholarship of Islam and Muslim societies as an interdisciplinary crossroad for scholars and researchers in various fields, including theology, religious studies, history, law, philosophy, philology, literature, anthropology, sociology, social and cultural psychology, cultural studies, and the arts. The new center will play a leading role in the interdisciplinary and comparative study of Muslims, Muslim Societies, Muslim Communities in the diaspora, and Islam between and across the boundaries of traditional area studies programs on national and international levels
