Call for proposal – “Toward a More Inclusive Digital Art History”, Panorama, Journal of the Association of Historians of American Art (Deadline: April 30, 2022)

Panorama: Journal of the Association of Historians of American Art invites submissions of proposals for its final feature article as part of the initiative, “Toward a More Inclusive Digital Art History,” which is supported by a major grant from the Terra Foundation for American Art.

Panorama (journalpanorama.org) is the first peer-reviewed, open-access, online publication dedicated to American art and visual culture (broadly defined). The journal encourages a broad range of perspectives and approaches within an interdisciplinary framework encompassing local and global contexts and is published by the University of Minnesota Libraries.

The goal of “Toward a More Inclusive Digital Art History” is threefold to increase both inclusivity and access. First, to encourage a more comprehensive approach to the history of American art, we seek to publish digital art history scholarship that focuses on the contributions of constituencies that have historically been marginalized or under-researched. Second, our priority is to create digital projects that are accessible, easily managed, and sustainable. Finally, we encourage proposals from authors who do not have significant digital humanities support at their home institutions. You can read more about the initiative and scholarship supported so far at https://editions.lib.umn.edu/panorama/article/toward-a-more-inclusive-dah.

Proposals should include a 500-word abstract and a sample of the data that will be analyzed—this can be a simple spreadsheet or even an appendix-like list. The accepted project will work closely with our Digital Art History Editor and Project Manager to bring their work to fruition. To assess our ability to aid in this process, we need a data sample to evaluate the amount of work required. Although not a requirement, we especially encourage co-authored proposals.

Proposals should be sent to journalpanorama@gmail.com with the subject heading “Digital Art History CFP response” and are due April 30, 2022.
