Call for applications – Fellowship – MESA Global Academy – (Deadline: May 1 2023)

The Global Academy Call for Applications for the 2023-2024 academic year
is now open!   

The MESA Global Academy offers competitive fellowships to Middle East Studies scholars from the MENA region who are currently displaced in North America.


The Global Academy awards $5,000 scholarships and facilitates programming for its fellows, including speaking engagements at partner universities across the United States, publication opportunities, mentoring, and professional development workshops.

Call for Paper – Panel on Premodern Islamic Maghrib for MESA 2023 (deadline : February 4th 2023) 

Stephen Cory is organizing a panel on the pre-modern Islamic Maghrib for the 2023 Middle East Studies Association (MESA) annual meeting.  The conference will be held on November 2-5, 2023, in Montréal, Québec, Canada.  300-400 word abstracts for the paper proposals will need to be submitted on the MESA website by February 16, 2023.  However, the panel proposal was already submitted, he will need to know who is on the panel and what they plan to talk about by February 4. 

The tentative name for the panel is “Political, Social and Religious Change in the Pre-Modern Islamic Maghrib.” He is also open to considering paper proposals dealing with other topics related to the pre-modern (before the nineteenth century) Islamic Maghrib.   If you are interested in participating, please send an abstract of 200-400 words and a 50-word biography by February 4 to s.cory@csuohio.edu.

Call for proposals – AIMS Annual Conference, 2023 (deadline : September 19, 2022)

AIMS | The Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES)

The American Institute for Maghrib Studies (AIMS) is seeking proposals for its annual conference for 2023,  with ideas for 2024 and 2025 welcome. The annual AIMS conference is a signature event that brings together delegations of scholars from the US, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and occasionally individual scholars from other countries, as appropriate. The AIMS conferences are held in late spring/early summer at one of the three overseas research centers – Tangier, Oran, or Tunis.

AIMS members interested in proposing a theme with resonance across the countries of the Maghrib are encouraged to submit a formal proposal for the 2023 conference by September 19, 2022; ideas and proposals for 2024 and 2025 conferences are also welcome.
