PhD Position Religion in Turkey/Alevi Studies (50% E13 TV-L)

The position, offered from July 1, 2023, is tied to the Professorship in Modern Turkish Studies at the Institute for the Study of Religion, the Faculty of History, Art and Area Studies.

We are looking for a doctoral student with a dissertation project on religion in Turkey, preferably with a historical/cultural studies approach and on a topic related to the field of Alevi Studies. Admission to the Leipzig Graduate School Global and Area Studies is possible.

Call for paper – Journal of Ankara Studies (deadline : February 28, 2023)

Koc University Vehbi Koc Ankara Studies Research Center (VEKAM)  publishes an interdisciplinary biannual refereed journal called the Journal of Ankara Studies since 2013.The first part of the journal contains original research articles centered around Ankara and its environs while the second part is feature opinion articles on this subject. In publishing this journal, the Center aims, in line with its mission, to compile any academic studies which reveal new data on Ankara and it’s environs through scientific research and to support and release them to the public. Journal of Ankara Studies makes up for the huge lack of research about the capital by publishing articles in both Turkish and English.

Istanbul considered to be the queen of cities in mythology throughout history, has some specific districts, without which the city would be incomplete. As a matter of the fact, the Golden Horn, The Bosphorus, and the Princes’ Islands, are all characterizing components of Istanbul, which come into mind in the first instance.Ongoing from the East Roman Empire to the Ottoman Empire, the islands have acquired different names such as Cin Adaları, Papaz Adaları, Keşiş Adaları or Kızıl Adalar. No doubt, this nine-piece archipelago of Istanbul (Büyükada, Heybeliada, Burgazada, Kınalıada, Sedef Adası, Demokrasi ve Özgürlükler Adası [Yassıada], Sivriada, Kaşıkadası and Tavşanadası) have unique aspects and features. These unique elements include a wide range of academic disciplines such as geography, ecology, climate science, seismology, geology, marine sciences, oceanography, history, or art.Istanbul Islands are periodically subject to scientific investigation and discussion due to their extremely diverse and quantitatively intense features.
